Minas Gerais

Location:
It is located in a mountain range called Espinhaço in the state of Minas gerais.

Weather:
The climate is hot in the morning and in the afternoon it is a little cooler. In the morning it can also be a little cloudy and during much of the year it is quite humid.

What to eat:
The "Mineira's" food has as main dishes "feijão carreteiro" which is a mixture of beans and saussages and a kale. Everything served very HOT, with a lot of peper. The desserts are delicious! They are all home made with milk coconut or fruit.

How to get there:
To arrive in the historic cities you should get a bus or car because the nearest airport will be about 3 hours driving.


Tips

In the historical cities of Minas Gerais is important to pay attention to the details of the churches, and its paintings that depict the styles of the Rocco Barroco Mineiro and portray the colonial past of a great abundance of gold.

Take to the historical cities a camera, sunscreen and comfortable clothing for cold weather. And tennis shoes.

Ouro Preto


What to see:
It's worth watching in the old buildings, enjoy the rich cuisine and converse with the locals, too.


What to do- where to go
The churches of Ouro Preto are among the most beautiful in Brazil and are worth a visit as the church of St Francisco of Assisis, made by Aleijadinho and Ataide in a rococo style, and the Church of Nossa Senhora do Pillar that was made in barroco style with a lot of gold and is very rich in detail and artistic movement.
Other important place to visit is the House of Tales where gold was melted and the taxes were collected. You should also visit the Chico Rei Mine to see the miserable conditions that the slaves used to work inside the mines.

Where to stay.

Hotel Providencia is a good option to stay if you want visit the historical cities like Mariana, where it is located. Ouro Preto is located close to Mariana, just a few minutes by car. Providencia is a comfortable and safe accommodation for visitors.
